If you wish to extend your trip to include the weekend, here are some of the "off the beaten track" things you can think of. Besides beaches, the UAE also has mangroves and excellent hiking about an hour from the city. And yes we have flamingos!
We are planning to visit the Mohammad Bin Rashid Library on Friday 27 October 2023 including their fantastic Treasures of the Library, a collection that embodies the world’s finest attempts of philosophical works throughout the centuries. From rare religious manuscripts to lifesaving medical treatises and from decorated atlases to romantic poems, each work represents a rich human experience, inviting us to broaden our minds and learn from others. We invite you to journey across humanity’s love for knowledge.
While Dubai as a whole has a fairly liberal dress code, at ASD we follow the guidelines of the local education authority, which means that modest dress is required while on our campus - this includes covering the shoulders, and shorts or skirts should be close to knee length. We appreciate your consideration for this. (We will have students and parents on campus both days.) If you will be joining us at the MBR library, the dress code is strict - men and women must wear long pants or skirts that cover the knees, and shoulders must be covered. Visits to Mosques require women to cover their heads with a scarf, and long sleeves and pants / skirts for everyone.
VOIP services for calls does not work in Dubai, so while you can use apps such as WhatsApp and WeChat for sending text messages you cannot call using these services. We suggest you either purchase roaming call minutes via your cellular provider, or you get a temporary SIM card. If you already have a VPN service you can use that, but you cannot download a VPN in the UAE.
