"John Charles Frémont was a U.S. explorer, soldier, and politician. He blazed many trails in the American West. Frémont led expeditions to map much of the area between the Mississippi River valley and the Pacific Ocean. He explored the Oregon Trail in 1842. In 1843, on another expedition, he crossed the Sierra Nevada mountains into California" (Britannica).
Explorers
"The U.S. frontiersman Kit Carson helped make history as a fur trapper, guide, Indian agent, and soldier in the Old West. In 1842 the explorer John Charles Frémont hired Carson as a guide for his trip to map the Oregon Trail. Frémont’s report on the trip made Carson famous" (Britannica).
"Jedediah Smith was an American fur trapper and explorer. During his journeys, Smith explored parts of what are now Utah, Nevada, and California. The region had never been traveled through by a white man. He was also the first American to enter California from the east and return from it using an overland route" (Britannica).
