Summer is for family, friends, foreign lands and fun. It's also for reading. The ASD Libraries hope all students and families will make time to learn from and lose themselves in books. Research clearly shows that students who read regularly throughout the summer return to school in the fall much better prepared to dive in and succeed. Educators are often asked, "What should my child read this summer?" The simple answer? They should read whatever they want to read. Graphic novels? Yes! A book they've read a thousand times before? Yes! A non-fiction book about video game hacks? Yes! A book that's "below their reading level"? Yes!
Research tells us that children who participate in Free Voluntary Reading - meaning they read whatever they want without having to do any tests or reports or work - become better readers. Being better readers gives them all sorts of academic and personal benefits.

ASD Libraries serve to inspire and guide students on their personal learning pathways. The libraries provide students with ubiquitous access to relevant information through dynamic virtual and physical spaces. The libraries are a model and center for collaboration, communication and innovation.
The library offers a variety of resources for research and recreational reading to all students currently enrolled at ASD, to their parents and to ASD stakeholders. The library staff seeks to encourage students to become lifelong learners by promoting a love reading and by teaching the skills necessary to effectively access and evaluate resources in order to meet academic and personal needs.
